RSS Feeds

Lemmy RSS feeds

Lemmy has it's own RSS feeds, and we encourage you to use them. But if you want a few more features you can use Lemmy RSS feeds provided by Open RSS, which provide the following benefits.

  • User profile feeds
  • Local, All, Community, and Federated Timeline feeds
  • Feeds for a search term
  • Get a feed for all comments in a single Lemmy thread
  • See the the context of a reply that a Lemmy comment replies to
  • All links are scoped to the instance for which the RSS feed has been generated

User Profile feed

Lemmy already has RSS feeds for User Profiles RSS feeds that you can get with

  1. First, go to any page on an Lemmy instance.
  2. Click on any user to go to that user's profile.
  3. While on the page, add openrss.org/ at the beginning of the URL of the page in your browser bar.
  4. Navigate to the updated URL to generate the Open RSS feed.
  5. Add the RSS feed to your RSS reader.

Community feed

Get an RSS feed for all posts within a Lemmy community by navigating to the community's web page and adding openrss.org/ to the beginning of the URL in your browser bar.

  1. First, go to any page on an Lemmy instance.
  2. Click on any user to go to that user's profile.
  3. While on the page, add openrss.org/ at the beginning of the URL of the page in your browser bar.
  4. Navigate to the updated URL to generate the Open RSS feed.
  5. Add the RSS feed to your RSS reader.

For instance, the RSS feed for the Linux community on lemmy.ml is below.

https://openrss.org/lemmy.ml/c/linux

You can also get an RSS feed for any comments on a post within a community by navigating to any post and adding openrss.org/ to the beginning of the browser bar. As an example, the RSS feed for the Beehaw post at beehaw.org/post/494131 is shown below.

Local feed

It's possible to get an RSS feed for Local and Federated ("All") timelines on any Lemmy instance as well. They can be sorted by Hot for the hottest posts, Active for the most active posts, or New for a real-time feed of posts as soon as they're created.

  1. First, go to any page on an Lemmy instance.
  2. Click on any user to go to that user's profile.
  3. While on the page, add openrss.org/ at the beginning of the URL of the page in your browser bar.
  4. Navigate to the updated URL to generate the Open RSS feed.
  5. Add the RSS feed to your RSS reader.

For instance, navigating to the Local timeline on the programming.dev Lemmy instance and adding openrss.org in the front of the URL in your browser bar would give you the following RSS feed URL.

https://openrss.org/programming.dev/?dataType=Post&listingType=Local&page=1&sort=Hot

Federated and All feed

An RSS feed can be generated for Federated ("All") timelines on any Lemmy instance. They can be sorted by Hot for the hottest posts, Active for the most active posts, or New for a real-time feed of posts as soon as they're created.

For instance, navigating to the Federated timeline on the programming.dev Lemmy instance and adding openrss.org in the front of the URL in your browser bar would give you the following RSS feed URL.

Search Result Feed

  1. First, go to any page on an Lemmy instance.
  2. Click on any user to go to that user's profile.

  4. Navigate to the updated URL to generate the Open RSS feed.
  5. Add the RSS feed to your RSS reader.
